It is often stated that age is merely a number, and there is no specific age limit for falling in love and getting married. Illustrating a commendable example for society, a 73-year-old woman residing in Mysuru, Karnataka, decided that it was never too late to seek companionship, expressing her desire to avoid a solitary existence in her later years.

As per media reports, this woman, a retired school teacher, took the unconventional step of placing a matrimonial advertisement in a newspaper, specifically seeking a ‘Brahmin husband.’ Fate intervened, and she received a response from a 69-year-old man, a retired engineer and widower. It appears that the woman was in search of a life partner who shared her desire for lifelong companionship.

Although the matrimonial advertisement was published in the local language, it outlined the septuagenarian’s preference for an alliance with a man who is “healthy and older than her.” Additionally, the criteria specified that the prospective partner must be a “Brahmin” and belong to her “community.”

The woman’s previous marriage had reportedly ended in divorce, a painful experience that deterred her from remarriage for many years. Following the passing of her parents, she found herself leading a solitary life, prompting her to actively seek a suitable partner, especially given her apprehension about walking home alone.

While such a non-traditional arrangement may challenge societal norms in India and invite disapproval, it is worth commending the woman for overcoming her hesitations and embracing the possibility of love—whether manifested through marriage or as a lifelong companion.
